Goodbye Ronnie!

2/5/2025

On Wednesday morning the children said goodbye to Ronnie, who retires as caretaker after 17 years at Moorfields. They presented cards and gifts and prepared this short video of their memories with ‘the main man’!

Ronnie was blown away by the generosity of the wider Moorfields family. We presented him with a cheque of all the donations received, and he asked me to express his heartfelt appreciation to you all...

"Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. Ronnie"

Primary 7 donate to MacMillan Cancer

3/4/2025

Primary 7 have proudly donated £250 from their ‘Wooden It Be Fabulous’ profits to MacMillan Cancer Support. Three members of school staff (Mrs McClintock, Mrs Clements and Diane McLaughlin) are part of a team called ‘The Hopefuls take 4’ who are completing a full hike at the Giant’s Causeway in June to raise much needed funds for MacMillan Cancer. Primary 7 explained that they not only wanted to donate to support staff members, but they also wanted to do something that would give back and help people in the local community who had been very supportive of their business venture, so they chose MacMillan Cancer because they are aware of the amazing work MacMillan do, supporting people with cancer and their families. ‘The Hopefuls take 4’ team have set up a Just Giving page for people to support them in whatever way they can. All donations will be greatly appreciated.

‘Treemendous’ sale with ‘Treemendous’ customers at Moorfields Primary School

23/3/2025

Miss Galloway’s Primary 7 class of young entrepreneurs were absolutely overwhelmed and are deeply grateful for the incredible support shown towards their ‘Wooden It Be Fabulous’ business venture. The enthusiasm, encouragement and support shown by customers and supporters meant the world to the pupils. Primary 7 would like to thank customers who purchased products, donated, spread the word or simply offered kind words of encouragement and support as this all played a crucial role in the success of the pupils’ business. Pupils realise that the support they received helped them not only to achieve their business goals but have also created lasting memories for them in their final year of primary school and pupils are truly fortunate to have such a supportive community.

A special thank you to businesses who donated raffle items or gift cards/vouchers towards ‘Wooden It Be Fabulous’ including Ashley Ritchie who is Asda’s Community Champion, Lidl and Creative Gardens. The class are very grateful to Eugene Diamond from Diamond’s Newsagent who donated a jar of sweets for the class to have a ‘Guess the number of sweets in the jar’ activity. Thank you to Mrs Elliott of Faith, Hope and Love Woodcraft for providing a lasering service to the class and a huge thank you to Philip McLaughlin of N & P Tyres, who sponsored the lasering work done on wooden products. Thank you to Love Ballymena who displayed an advert and poster created by the pupils advertising their trade event and our thanks are also extended to Ballymena Guardian for publicising the trade event too. Our final thanks go to our two dedicated classroom assistants, Diane and Sandra, who have gone over and above their job role throughout the entire business venture.

Primary 7 would like to thank everyone involved in their business from the bottom of their hearts for believing in them and for helping to make their business venture a resounding success. In the words of Primary 7, “We couldn’t have done it without you.” Primary 7 described it as a privilege serving members of the public and other pupils in school.

’Wooden It Be Fabulous’ raised a ‘treemendous’ £2205.41 in total and after deducting £200 of a start up loan (which was used to purchase raw materials and provide a float) Primary 7 are left with a ‘treemendous’ profit of £2005.41. They will be making a donation to a charity of their choice and the remainder of their money will be used to treat themselves to a well deserved end of year treat, helping them to create even more memories before leaving Primary 7 at Moorfields.
